Plant(ed) Form + Function
Beginning with a guiding narrative, I developed a planting plan for an "idealized" site with three plant habitats: woodland, wetland, and open field (west to east). The design evolved through stages including conceptual and schematic design, then design development and was an introduction to creating a plant palette and working with planted form. The theme of my planting plan was the path of the sun over the course of a day. Plants near the garden’s entry to the east reflect, in name and color, the break of dawn. The central wetland area displays a vibrant herringbone thicket of red- and yellow-twig dogwood to represent a fiery afternoon. The shady western woodland includes a night garden full of fragrance and reflective bark and flowers.
